How retailers can explain plywood grades to customers

A clear recommendation starts with the customer’s application. Grade names become easier to understand when connected to real room conditions and use.

Ask about the application

Begin with the room and the finished item: kitchen cabinet, wardrobe, bed, shelf, partition, shutter or packing component. The same customer may need different boards for different parts of a project.

Ask about moisture

Explain that dry interiors, humid rooms and wet-prone zones create different requirements. MR, BWR and BWP should be discussed as application decisions rather than as a simple price ladder.

Ask about thickness and finish

Thickness, laminate, paint, edge treatment and support spacing affect the final result. A customer choosing a board for a painted routed door may value a different surface from someone building a structural cabinet.

Keep the recommendation precise

  • Repeat the application in plain language.
  • State the moisture condition.
  • Confirm thickness and quantity.
  • Share the relevant product specification.

This approach helps retailers build trust while giving architects, designers, contractors and homeowners a more useful material decision.
